Just curious, how much work/money would it take to swap my old dohc for another

I was woundering for future , my engine is getting up their on kms and i was woundering if it worth swaping my engine for another used one with less kms im just woundering because on this sc2 i've done mods i'd like to keep but not a big deal if its going to cost me alot to do this , and i mean i'll pay so its done right. i figured if i find the engine for 300-700 or w.e haven't even lookd and the labour was the same? so about 900-1600 to swap completly or am i way off of this estimate and be much much higher? cuz maybe its time to buy new :)

i'd be leaning more towards the 1600 range, probably not quite that high. and i dont know what year u drive but i paid 1100 for a sohc in an '01.

Keep maintaining yours till it stops running. If you're up in mi (oops km), you must be changing your oil regularly. What year/how many mi on the current engine?

Keep changing the oil and keep it topped off.....

Swapped mine a few months ago due to a cracked head due to pump failure. Important to know your year and the year of the donor car. There were major changes in 95 and 99, and probably others after that. Mine is a 98 SC2 so I needed a 96 to 98 to match fairly well. Changes in fuel rail, intake, sensors etc. add to the time and cost. Finding a GOOD donor isn't easy. I'm in southern ontario and most of the motors I found had over 200k on them. If you look after your motor,it can go 500k. When going used, sometimes it's better with the devil you know rather than the one you don't. I lucked out and got a whole parts car for $400 but I was looking for a while. Still, it sucked up all of ALL of a weekend to get it back on the road. Also, your going to kick out a couple hundred for gaskets and fluid, plus probably replacing chain guides, water pump etc.

Ok thanks for the replys, yea i got a 99 sc2 dohc now...and yes i do keep the mantance up. Maybe i'll look for a parts car now and maybe find a good one when i need one.

why not just rebuild the engine you have?

engine change

I bought a used 1.9 DOHC with 143,000 km for $800 and paid $500 to an amateur mechanic to have the engines switched. I'm in Alberta. At full shop rates I think it would be hard to justify.

Now I think I will replace the cracked head on the other engine.
