I currently have a 01 SC2 with Header, aftermarket WAI and Home made Cat Back and Flow Master muffler.

In the past I had MSD 8224 Coils and Bosch Wires talking to Bosch Plat. Plugs before the motor took a nose drive on me. MPG was as high as 42 on the highway.

Currently I am running Stock ignition with the replacement motor from a 02 SL2. Acceleration is somewhat sluggish and requires a little more throttle than my previous. I figured with my old setup and improvement from last experience I would upgrade the ignition. I purchased JEGS version of the MSD coils. When on the throttle seems smoother when stationary and at COLD/Closed loop (if correct). After the motor warms with the JEGS coil at part throttle (7-14% TPS and 14-10VAC) the motor kicks and bucks till either I drop the throttle below 14 VAC or above 10VAC. The only thing that I have not replaced is the Ignition module which Saturn wants $365. When I only replace the JEGS with the stock coil (1,4) the kick and bucking stops but still doesnt feel right (same problem before replacing Coil).

Any thoughts?

eDev two questions come to mind:


(1) The PCM you are currently using original with the car, or from the vehicle that supplied the replacement engine ?


(2) What was the failure mode of the original engine, mechanical or electrical ?

PCM is my original.

Failure was mechanical.

I am assuming that there are no codes set(you did not mention any)


Just a WAG on my part, but I would spend a few bucks and replace the ECTS and associated connector. Use teflon tape, replace when the engine is cold, and make sure the new sensor does not have an exposed resin tip (that type fails quickly)

Actually there was a code with the JEGS coils. I believe it was P0340. something with the Crank position.
