gen 3 sc2 connecting rod questions
 
I have a 2000 sc2 i picked up for our son rod blew thru block. Picked up a 2001 engine that had 2 spun rod bearings on #2 and #3 . Got the crank and block back yesterday 10/10 crank and block honed and milled flat. Are the rods on these specific to which cylinder they go in or can i mix them. I don't have the dead motor out yet so i could have 3 good rods to pick from or total junk. thanks in advance for input.

If you check the sticky's at the top of some of the forum catagories you will find there is a lot of data relating to what does and does not work. Some you will have to sort through a bit to get exactly what you are looking for. Here is the results of one of them:

I am not sure it is exactly what you want because it is the first time I have seen this particular one.

I've rebuilt several engines over the years and always numbered the rods and cap bearings, but have never used two different engines to make one. I don't think that it will make much difference which one you put where, since the crank has been turned, but I'm not an engineer or mechanic, so don't take my word for it. Maybe someone that works on cars for a living will answer. Perhaps Keith?

As far as I know they are all the same. Stop in the new member forum and introduce yourself. When done open the USER CP and add your first name, location, and car info to your "signature".

I think as long as you keep the correct cap with the correct rod they should be fine

Rods and caps are matched, but rods should be interchangeable from cylinder to cylinder. It's a good idea to have the rods checked for straightness,length, and true(especially if they are coming from a blown motor), and also to make sure the wrist pins are a good fit-be a shame to have a rattle after all your efforts. As long as the machine shop is at, they could also balance the rods.
