engine idle adjust question

my 2002 sc2 has a idle adjust screw on the throttle plate but for the life of me i cant find anything that fits it .

anybody know what size and what kind of tool it takes?
tried all my allen heads ,none fit well enough to turn it .tried my star heads too.
it did have a security nipple inside the recess but i knicked it off so my allens would fit .but still no luck .
would like to turn my idle up a tad .

dude

this is preset at the factory -- from what you described sounds like a security torx head. of course requriing security torx drivers. It's the fastener used when someone really doesn't want you to f with something.

That screw is only to be used as needed to attain normal idle if the throttle body is replaced.

Leave it be.

Have you just tried cleaning the throttle body? Perhaps you're getting a vacuum leak around the intake somewhere. Maybe one of the two?

yeah i cleaned it twice in the last year .its finicky ,sometimes it idles good sometimes it dips down too low coming to a stop .
i guess i could replace the idle control solenoid but no code ever been thrown for it .
just a tad higher idle would do .

Maybe your CTS is going bad. Has it ever been replaced? They seem to wreak havoc on the Saturns.

just threw a new code today po410......fix one thing another thing pops up..lol....seems a easy fix though .most likely a plugged up hard line going to the manifold .
or a bad air pump .

I have owned my 94 Saturn SL2 since 1996 and never once had to adjust the idle. As far as I know it is not adjustable. If idle rpm is walking around, there is something wrong. Ruby mentioned the CTS. This thing has a high failure rate, this and dirt and crud impacting the throttle body and stuff.

its nothing bad , i am just picky .90 percent of the time it idles fine .its just when coming to a fast stop it dips down lower than i would like sometimes .

i just cleaned out the emissions hard line going to the head,it was carbon-ed up pretty good .hopefully that clears up the recent code .the air pump is working .

so far everythings been pretty minor and its a easy car to work on .
