Do shifter bushings and cable ends on eBay work?

Dang it!! ...was shifting out of reverse to 1st ---went to put it in first, shifter popped into the center position and floats forwards and backwards -- no way to shift into any gear

And it's stuck in reverse (of course).

Feels as though both shift cables are no longer attached...
I'll open it up in the morning. Hope the cables didn't actually snap...
___________
Does anyone have experience with any of the aftermarket replacement bushings and shift cable end replacements available on eBay?

Well.....shifter bushing failed on cable directly connected to bottom of shifter.

Did some reading up across the web; the stainless steel bushings available on eBay get good reviews so I just bought 2 (1 for my 95 Sc2, and one for my 97 SC2 (currently occupying garage as unwieldy paperweight).

I also bought replacement cable ends since there seem to be mixed reports of cable end failure after the bushing is replaced

I'll keep ya posted.

My 91' SC just did the same. Found the bushing at the junkyard for $1
cable eye end was fine.
Warmed it up with a hair dryer, greased and popped it on.

Forgot to update. Bought stainless bushing replacement and installed. Works nicely.
Bought cable ends for insurance.

your use of an already partially fatigued used plastic bushing is dicey. The heating cycle probably only made it more brittle. I'd keep some zip ties in the glove box.....

No problems at all.
No 'brittle-ness' anywhere, its rubber not plastic.
I am sure it will last another 175,000 miles.

what year S car did it come off of, this rubber bushing of which you speak?

Atlaswar 07-29-2009 07:09 PM

The dead one was a 93 at Airway Auto here in Battle Creek. The interior and exterior are still cherry.
I am not sure of the grade of rubber it is made from.
I will investigate in my molding department at work this evening.

I just assumed they were all hard plastic like the one in my 95 and 97....

Can anyone else shed some light on this?
