2001 SC2 Start-Up Problem
I have experienced a start-up problem twice in the last month. First time I stopped at a store and when I returned to the car and tried to start it nothing happened except dash lights/alarm icons lit as with a normal start-up. No attempt to start - just silence. I moved shift lever which was in park and after a few minutes when I attempted to start the car it started normally.
Yesterday I when to a store, was in the store about 5 minutes, and when I attempted to start the car I got the same results I did a month ago. Moving shift lever did nothing. I called for tow truck, it arrived an hour later, and after informing the driver of the problem I experienced he attempted to start the carr and it started normally. Is there a heat sensitive rely in the start -up system that could be preventing the car from starting until it cools? What other reason could be causing the problem? Battery is good. |
Please qualify "battery is good."
Loose connection at battery terminals. Corrosion at battery terminals. Corrosion at end of ground lead from battery Marginal bad cell in battery (doesn't matter if it's new) Loose or corroded connection at starter Starter solenoid inside starter failingShifter interlock out of adjustment Start simple. Check for loose and/or corroded connections mentioned above. Also look for signs of battery acid having been wicked up the battery leads. Take vehicle to AutoZone or similar and have them run a load test on your charging system. It's free. Check engine light on? |
