I've been given some delightful news today. My 2001 SC1 has a bad engine, with just 99000km on it. The work to fix my engine could cost $1500 or even more. I figure I'm better off getting a new one. I have a couple questions...

I'd like to go with a DOHC engine instead, what else would need upgrading?

What are some websites where I could find some good whole engines?

Price estimates? (I likely won't be doing it myself.)

Well I'm going to get back at my research, I appreciate all of your help very much. Thanks.

You'd need:
2001 DOHC PCM & BCM with similar options as your current car
2000-2002 DOHC engine
2001-2002 MP7 Automatic transmission (if you have an auto)
2001-2001 MP6 Manual transmission (if you have a manual
2000-2002 Exhaust manifold and downpipe
2000-2002 DOHC instrument cluster

Ebay, but I'd look at your local junkyards. If you have to purchase an engine and have it shipped, the swap isn't worth it.

I can get engines for $150 locally. But you'd probably be looking at $150 to $1000 for a used engine. I seriously doubt you'll find anyone willing or knowledgable to do this swap. Unless you start looking through all the online Saturn forums and are lucky enough to find a Saturn enthusiast in your area willing to help you out.

just a thought but if the cost to fix the engine is only gonna be 1500-2000 then its not gonna be cheaper to replace the engine

Might cost more to swap the engine out, but it's still cheaper than a car payment for the next several years.
