Need a window regulator for my '92 SC coupe
I'm looking for a driver-side window regulator for my 1992 SC (coupe), with or without the motor, but it should be in good condition and suitable as replacement.
I'm not sure, but I think the same regulator was used by the '92 to '96 SC models (the regulators on the sedans are different size, so won't work). I've called my local auto parts, but, of course, they don't have anything that would fit. If anyone here knows where I can find one, I'd truly appreciate it. |
You will be, if I'm not mistaken, contacting junk yards in the south and southwest where first generation S cars did not rust out and are actually still in the wrecking yards. Rube, over the years, as well as a few other members, have snagged more or less impossible to find parts for me from down south. Pretty much everything is rust-free, so cars seem to run longer before the frame rots out.
Make sure you cross check the part numbers before beginning your search. 91 and 92 were somewhat experimental years with the S cars. A lot of this was under the hood but there may be other differences as well. 93 to 96, most things match, but even then you really need to do the parts search. I find GMpartsdirect.co (no m) which now resolves to another domain, to usually have fitment information that the other websites for GM parts do not. If you know of a good website that has the fitment information, please do share. Also remember that you will be getting a 30-year-old plus part from a wrecking yard. And someone will have to remove the glass. The driver's window on my '95 SC2 has the very bottom end of the regulator starting to get chewed up so I simply don't put the window all the way down. Not sure if this is an option for you. If you have not pulled the outer door skin, you will want to do so to assess how bad it is and if any other parts are not as they should be. |
Thanks for the reply, 'derf'
I'm kind of hoping to find a newer one, i.e., one that had been put in in the last 15 yrs or so. Doesn't have to be OEM, after-market will do, as long as it works. I've become pretty familiar with the procedure (thanks in part to videos by Richpin), and can pay someone to do the work. But first I need the part. So any help getting that will be much appreciated. I'll check GMpartsdirect.co |
I checked the pull a part I go to in Birmingham and they have ONE SC model. It's a 2002. They have a 97 & a 99 sedan. Will any of those work? I might be willing to make the trip and pull some stuff, but it'll have to be worth my time and expense since it's a 150 mile round trip for me.

Needs to be 96 and earlier, rube. 97 is the first year of the second generation coupe.
I'd say your best chance of snagging any functional regulator for the 92 is to stalk the internet listings for reputable wrecking yards. Because as soon as something comes in, the wolves will devour it. And you need to be within the first three wolves to get what you want. |
