2005 Saturn Vue Redline for parts or rebuild engine
2005 Saturn Vue Redline, 3.5 litre V6, Auto. Barely runs. Will NOT pass NY inspection. Cylinder #6 has no compression. Frame, body, transmission, wheels all good. Most of the interior is very good. Within last 3 years we replaced transmission/motor mounts (Not transmission, Not motor - just the mounts) driveshaft center bearing, front brake rotors/calipers/pads/hoses, fuel tank pressure sensor, evap canister, vapor canister vent solenoid, purge valve solenoid, serpentine belt, spark plugs, coils, muffler, cabin filter, air filter and more. I wish we had time and the tools to replace the engine but we don't so we need to either sell it whole or part it out. We have two sets of wheels that are in good shape - summer and winter tires on rims. If sold whole I'm asking $900 firm. The one set of wheels is worth maybe $300.

Maybe if you posted some photos and a price, you might sell it. Personally, I'm in no position to buy anything. My wife is currently recovering from her 11th surgery this year and I'm so broke I can't even pay attention.

Saturn Vue photos
I thought I had posted a bunch of photos. I will go back to the thread to see what happened. Price is very negotiable because if I sell it whole I'd like to get half what I have invested in the last 3 years (which is about $2000) so I guess $900. If I end up parting it out, the rims with tires that are on it would be about $300. Seats would be maybe $65, Hood, doors etc would be???? So I kinda don't know what to put for price but I'll look into why all my photos didn't show up. Thanks!

Man, that's a very clean car for a rust belt location. You have obviously taken good care of it. That would be a fair price IMHO for someone who has the time and knowledge of what it needs. That's definitely not me. GLWTS.

In My opinion, anything that is that nice should be sold whole if at all possible. Even if it is less then you want to accept. Once it gets stripped down to a non-functioning non-driving vehicle, you will eventually have to pay someone to tow it to the scrap yard or they will give you maybe 50 bucks for it.
All your time spent stripping parts is technically also money lost on your part unless you can do it very quickly. Selling in winter is likely more difficult than in the fall. You are obviously working hard to unload it now. Keep at it. 75,,% asking price > 45% asking price in parts, many have you enough that no one will want to pay the shipping + 10 hours of your time Better yet, find somewhere to donate it to a high school votech program, cars for kids, etc. You get the point. |
I haven't been able to sell the whole car for more than the scrapper in Albany, NY will give me and the trade school (BOCES) wasn't interested so I'm going to start selling the parts. Bummer. :( First to go is the front bumper cover...

You can also donate to toys for tots, American cancer society..... Most of the national charities accept things they can at least partly turn around.

If you don't mind me asking, how did cylinder 6 get damaged and lose compression?
|
Driving one day and the engine started running rough, check engine light started flashing. Turned around and drove the 2 miles back home. Until then, no symptoms/warning lights or anything. Hooked up the knockoff Tech 2 scanner and it showed misfire cylinder 6. Pulled the coil and it was half gone (see photo). The spark plug was was in 3 pieces and the last piece didn't come out until we sucked it out with a shopvac! We tried a helicoil and the plug seems to seat correctly but there's still no compression on cylinder 6. Just for kicks we checked the valve clearances and adjusted them. Nothing. I wish there was a miracle cure but I don't think so...

Damn, that thing got completely destroyed! I had something similar happen to me with an old Chevy truck, the spark plug just disintegrated randomly and the upper half got blown clear out of the engine, dangling on the spark plug wire. I got (very!) lucky that there ended up being no permanent damage, and we just threaded in a new plug. But definitely odd - it was like someone had snapped the thing in two.
Sorry about the bad luck. Your car looks to be in very nice shape otherwise. |
