Out on the Tiles
As I walk down the highway all I do is sing this song,
And a train that's passin' my way helps the rhythm move along. There is no doubt about the words are clear, The voice is strong, is oh so strong. I'm just a simple guy, I live from day to day. A ray of sunshine melts my frown and blows my blues away, There's nothing more that I can say but on a day like today I pass the time away and walk a quiet mile with you. All I need from you is all your love, All you got to give to me is all your love, All I need from you is all your love, All you got to give to me is all your love. Oooh yeah, ooh yeah, ooh yeah, oh yeah. I'm so glad I'm living (stop) and gonna tell the world I am, I got me a fine woman and she says that I'm her man, One thing that I know for sure gonna give her all the loving Like nobody, nobody, nobody, nobody can. Standing in the noonday sun trying to flag a ride, People go and people come, see my rider right by my side, It's a total disgrace, they set the pace, it must be a race And the best thing I can do is run. All I need from you is all your love, All you got to give to me is all your love, All I need from you is all your love, All you got to give to me is all your love. Oooh yeah, ooh yeah, ooh yeah, oh yeah. |
"Custard Pie"
Drop down, baby, let your daddy see. Drop down, my lady, just dream of me Well, my mama allow me to fool around all night long Well, I may look like I'm crazy, I should know right from wrong See me comin', throw your man outdoor Ain't no stranger, done been this way before See me comin', mama, I throw your man outdoor I ain't no stranger, I been this way before. Put on your night shirt and your morning gown You know by night I'm gonna shake 'em on down Put on your night shirt, mama, and your morning gown Well, you know by night I'm sure gonna shake 'em on down Shake it, shake it Ooh, your custard pie, yeah, sweet and nice When you cut it, mama, save me a slice Your custard pie, yeah, I declare you're sweet and nice like your custard pie When you cut it, mama... mama, please save me a slice. Oh I chew on a piece of your custard pie. I chew on a piece of your custard pie. I chew on a piece of your custard pie. I chew on a piece of your custard pie. Drop down Drop down Drop down Drop down Drop down Drop down Chew on a piece of your custard pie. |
"I'd Love To Change The World"
Everywhere is freaks and hairies, dykes and fairies Tell me where is sanity? Tax the rich, feed the poor, 'til there are no rich no more I'd love to change the world - but I don't know what to do So I'll leave it up to you Population - keeps on breeding, nation bleeding, Still more feeding economy Life is funny, skies are sunny, bees make honey Who needs money? Monopoly! I'd love to change the world - but I don't know what to do So I'll leave it up to you... Oh yeah World pollution, there's no solution, institution, electrocution Just black and white, rich or poor, them and us We'll stop the war! I'd love to change the world - but I don't know what to do So I'll leave it up to you... It's called luck (lyrics do not reflect my personal views) |
"Time"
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day Fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say Home, home again I like to be here when I can When I come home cold and tired It's good to warm my bones beside the fire Far away, across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spell |
Alan Parsons Project is one of my all time favorites, derf. You nailed it with that one.

Time"
Time Flowing like a river Time Beckoning me Who knows when we shall meet again If ever But time Keeps flowing like a river To the sea Goodbye my love Maybe for forever Goodbye my love The tide waits for me Who knows when we shall meet again If ever But time Keeps flowing like a river (on and on) To the sea To the sea Till it's gone forever Gone forever Gone forevermore Goodbye my friend Maybe for forever Goodbye my friend The stars wait for me Who knows where we shall meet again If ever But time Keeps flowing like a river (on and on) To the sea To the sea Till it's gone forever Gone forever Gone forevermore Forevermore Forevermore Forevermore Forevermore |
"Walk Away"
Taking my time Choosin' my line Tryin' to decide what to do Looks like my stop Don't wanna get off Got myself hung up on you Seems to me You don't want to talk about it Seems to me You just turn your pretty head and walk away Places I've known Things that I'm growin' Don't taste the same without you I got myself in The worst mess I've been And I find myself startin' ta doubt you Seems to me Talk all night, here comes the mornin' Seems to me You just forget what we said And greet the day Seems to me You don't wanna talk about it Seems to me You just turn your pretty head and walk away I've got ta cool myself down Stompin' around Thinkin' some words I can't name ya Meet ya half way Got nothin' to say Still I don't s'pose I can blame ya Seems to me You don't want to talk about it Seems to me You just turn your pretty head and walk away Walk away |
Isn't that one The James Gang with Joe Walsh? I don't know WTF I was thinking on Time. I KNOW that's Pink Floyd and and not APP. But thanks for posting the APP tune, too. I had been going over a list of the top 50 guitarists of all time and DO NOT agree with Jimi Hendrix being the best guitar player ever. No way in hell. Too many others that IMHO were much better choices than him. Too many distorted and twisted notes for my ear.

Indeed that is the aforementioned James Gang tune.
The whole concept of selecting a single person as the best guitarist of all time makes little sense to me. Too many different genres, too many different variations on a theme, too many derivative musicians which accompany derivative music. Every guitarist was influenced by some guitarist before him or her. Or pianist. Or string bass player. or all of the above. EVH rip did things others could not and cannot. But I don't think he played the blues the way John Lee Hooker could. Now I doubt John Lee Hooker could play Buckethead's music very easily if he could even relate to it. If you're alive long enough, then you are afforded the opportunity to experience so many different styles and genres of music that you can actually decide which ones you want to play. Clapton is a perfect example of that. And we can't leave out the bass player from the Violent Femmes. Half slap half picking bass guitarist lead singer. With talent. There is no need to rank any of these because it's all apples to oranges in the end. I never get into silly arguments as to who is better than who because the answer is apples to oranges. Personally, Jimi Hendrix is my favorite. I don't shove that on anyone but I don't care if anyone agrees. Simply stating a preference. As someone with 8 years of classical piano training, knowledge of chord structure, intervals, progressions, blah blah blah, Jimi's music strikes me differently in the ear when I hear it. I hear phrases when I listen to his music, not really the individual notes. It's not a conscious choice. He doesn't communicate with individual notes at least not to me. I don't claim to understand his inspirations, his frame of mind, or what drove him to write the type of music that he did. I don't think Jimi knew either. I think he just played what he felt. He had a unique way of expressing himself musically. I think the chaos in his mind is captured somewhat by what came out through his hands. I feed off that energy. It actually calms me while driving me forward at the same time. Some don't like the sound and that's fine. But I do. If you listen to it enough, you start to deconstruct the very outer layers of the chaotic sound of some of his songs. If it is your thing. If not, that's fine too. I have always heard Jimi's music in phrases. I never listen for notes chords or chord progressions because the least common denominator for me is the phrase. I can tell you just by listening to most other songs what the chord progression is. It's not that difficult if you have the background. But most classic rock songs are based on two or three chord progressions maybe four. That's not a bad thing just a statement. But that is the base structure that I hear in other music. But for me, the base structure in Jimi's music is the phrase. And I can listen to those phrases all day. Is it chaotic? I suppose that depends on your point of view. And your point of view is fine by me. |
