Default Getting Scratches Out of Fiberglass

As you can see from the title, I have a question about fiberglass finishing. Got a neighbor that has a gorgeous Yamaha Trike. While transporting it from Canada to FL, a couple of boxes apparently shifted and fell against the rear fenders on the trike. They rubbed some light scratches on the paint and Pat's not sure what to do to get them out. He's talking about taking it to a paint and body shop and I don't think he needs to do that. They're light surface scratches and don't go deep at all. Anyone here familiar enough with fiberglass to recommend how to get them out? Any help is appreciated.

no experience working w fiberglass but I would think they could be buffed out with some very fine grit finishing compound. After all, the scratches are only in the clear coat. I'm assuming it has a clear coat finish on it.

If he takes it anywhere, I'd think a bike dealer with a detailing service would get those out in 10 sec or less

Well, he IS from Canada, derf! LOL I've got some polishing compound and am going to see if he wants to try it himself. I'm not going to touch it, in case it doesn't work!

+1 on clear coat scratches. If they are deep into the fiberglass you could sand it out and put a fg patch in it and layer it back up and smooth it out, but I would leave that to a bodyshop lol

Thanks, Octavious. I haven't seen him out lately, but it's been windy and raining the past few days. I'll let him decide what he wants to do. I don't touch fiberglass.

There may be polishing compound specifically made for "automotive" fiberglass. No 2 plastics are the same property wise...

Old thread, but I did see Pat last week and asked him about his bike. He said all was well as he took it to a detail shop and they cleaned it up for him to perfection. When I asked him what they used, he didn't have a frigging clue. Didn't even ask. All he wanted was the scratches gone. Now he's got the damn thing up for sale as he rarely rides it!

I didn't ask because I can't even afford a tricycle, let alone a nice Yamaha trike. If you're interested, I can try to get a price and some pics. Be a nice ride back to PA in a few weeks. I just don't know how much longer he's going to be here. He's a snowbird.
