Congrats

Pretty stable pic for driving 70 mph...

Congrats! Got a 94 SL1 with 260,000 miles, original clutch.

Far out, man! Only 300,000 more to go! Then you can rebuild it and go another 500,000.

congrats! I remember how pumped i was to hit 100k with my saturn lolol.

ill be seeing 200k out of my diesel by next year :D

I just got to 200K last month, and I'm hoping she doesn't start breaking down on me. How often do older Saturns make it past 200K, 300K?

derf 01-27-2016 11:56 PM

The SOHCs tend to last longer than the DOHCs. 300K+ is not unheard of.

With anything that old, you're going to start having issues w things like wheel bearings and bushings, and all the other things that are original but do have a finite lifetime, like starters and A/C compressors and fuel pumps....to be expected

Dave4422 01-28-2016 12:08 AM

I've already done the front bearings, all four struts and springs, all four wheels and tires, a heater core and a radiator, a refilled A/C system, ignition cylinder, muffler, mirror bracket, brakes shoes and disks, and a bunch of sensors. Most important of all are new front and rear badging!

Interesting! Is there a fundamental engine/mechanical reason for this, or was the SOHC quality just better than the DOHC?

Just hit the 200k mileage club today.....:)

Congrats! You've taken an ION farther than I have had the privilege of taking one, lol...

Here's to another 200k!

The SOHC engines see lower revs than the DOHC version, and has a smaller tendency to consume oil, thus lessening engine wear...

derf 01-28-2016 10:40 PM

DOHC's seem to develop oil burning issues sooner than the SOHCs. So if someone is not paying attention to the oil level, they will lose the engine more quickly.

The heads have twice as many moving parts to fail.

Also, the sporty experience of driving a Saturn DOHC is just fun. People tend to push their cars harder, and mechanical failure is often the result. Plus people probably wreck them more often while having fun instead of paying attention to the traffic, the road, and/or the landscape.

That's my take on it. Most is conjecture.

Folks .....what's your opinion on the question?

Rubehayseed 01-29-2016 08:09 AM

Atta boy. Now see if you can get another 200,000 out of it.
