</>hi all just wondering a few things about s/c's and turbos in general...first of all i would like to know how easy it is to make a turbo/sc work for these cars? i've heard that pretty much all kits are universal and you can make them work the only thing you need is the manifold because that is vehicle specific..also how much do manifolds run for s/c's and t/c's? i myself prefer superchargers so if that helps in anyones answer and also my saturn is a 98 sc2 manual trans.Edited by: krismanme

You need a LOT more than some universal part and a vehicle specific manifold. You also dont need a manifold with a supercharger.

Mike are their any satty turbo kits on the market these days if not what will i
need to make on work??? I have a 97 SL2 and i have been wanting to do this
for awhile now any advice that you have will be very help full to me.

look you need alot more than just bolting up a turbo to the car. You also need to make all custom IC piping and then you need an intercooler to bolt up. Then youll need some fuel upgrades and then a way to tune all of this. Also a custom downpipe to have it connect to the exhuast. Also youll need to get all the oil/coolant lines for the turbo. And im not sure how tapping in to the oiul pan for the return line works on these cars. Im sure 'low saturn' will know better. But if you think your gonna get away with spending less than 2k for this then you need to do more research.

I believe someone does or did make a kit, its roughly $4000. You still have to build the motor to handle the power. Even after all that, you still wont have a car thats "reliable" You'll always need a second car just in case.

I ALSO HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT TURBOS AND INTERCOOLERS.WHEN YOU SAY RELIABLE ARE YOU SAYING THAT DOING THIS WILL STRAIT UP KILL YOUR CAR FASTER EVEN IF THE MOTOR HAS BEEN DONE INTERNALLY OR ARE YOU SAYING THAT EVEN IF IT WAS CHEAPER OR EASIER IT WOULD''T BE WORTH IT BECAUSE THE CAR IS CHEAP AND JUST CAN''T HANDLE IT OR CAN IT HANDLE IT AND IT JUST WON''T BE THAT FAST.I''VE BEEN TOYING WITH THE IDEA FOR SOME TIME NOW AND HAVE FOUND A REAL LOT OF REPUTABLE PARTS INTERNALLY FOR THE ENGINE.THE ONLY THINGS I CAN''T FIND FOR THIS CAR ARE AXELS AND A SHORT SHIFTER OR BETTER SHIFTER.ANY INFO ON HARDYNESS OR PLACES TO GET QUALITY PARTS IS APPRECIATED.

Istead of superchargind/turbocharging the original engine. i would
suggest to you to simply get rid of it and swap an Ecotec 2.0L
supercharged engine (the same that they put in the Cobalt SS/ion redline)

you can get one of them for 4K $ (shipped) on ebay (or in any good
junkyards) sounds like a lot but you but an complete swap also give you a
new gearbox, alternator, A/C clutch, Axle shaft, Fuse etc...

This setup would provide you with a very very reliable setting (if installed
properly. And quite good performance, The stock engine develops
around 205 bhp. And if it''''''''s not enough, you can EASILY find extra
performance part for that specific engine.

One of my friend swaped an ecotec 2.2L in his 94 SC1 and everything
work properly. The 2.0.l is nearly the same you should be able to install
it without major modification. or if you go for the 2.2l (around 600$ +
gearbox and various components) you can find a decent turbokit for that
too

while... you can find a few intersting thing. i saw Eibach spring, KYB

It would be cheaper and easier to just build up and turbocharge or supercharge the current engine. The Ecotec doest just drop in. Extensive modifications would have to be made. Not only to the current powertrain mounting system, but to the drive axles and the body.

And another $3.5+ in fabrication to get it to work in the car.
