2007 Chevy Cobalt LT

I just tripped over this car at work. It drove to work Monday and failed to start at lunchtime. I was asked for help and looked at it the same afternoon. I opened the hood and had the owner crank it over. No joy, clanking at the chain end and no compression. I was the bearer of bad news and left it at that for the day. I let it simmer and I have known her dad for 18 years. Tuesday I asked her what they wanted to do with the car and that I might be interested. She said her dad had her call the local pick-a-part and they were not really interested for more than $150. It is a nice car with two sets of tires and was driving well before it died. I offered $400-$500 and her dad said he would take $500 and bring the other set of tires. It is a second generation L61, just before the variable cam timing engine came out. It has the better block and head with the new computer but the early internals. The LT has 5-110 wheels and the car is a four door automatic. My wife says I will have to use vacation to get all my projects done, they seem to be piling up. LOL

07/08 engines are year specific. They are also tuneable. If I remember correctly, you had a parts Saab? Turbo it and it can be a fun beater. Congrats!

Sounds like a good score, Andy. I like the way the Cobalts look, but generally won't drive anything GM except a Saturn.

I actually have the complete bigT running engine on a stand in the garage. The Cobalt and the Ion are really the same car if I understand correctly.

For the most part. Like I said, 07/08 are a bit of step children just like the 03/04 ions. There are some differences, but nothing crazy. Strut hats are different. Exhaust is like 2in longer. E brake cables are different. Little things. They are identical to HHRs.
