Turbski time

Aye guys. Names Anthony. Have an 04 ion I am currently putting a gt2052 on. Baby snail, but should wake it up.
Mod list:
Ported head
Lnf valves
Lnf springs
Lsj cams
Viton seals
Le5 mani
Le5 tb spacer
62mm p&p tb
Stainless clutch line
Exedy clutch
Fe3 everything (minus arms)
DNA drop springs
Etc etc.

Just need a few last pieces for the snail and ill be good to roll. And yes, air and fuel will be managed. Planning on blasting a hole in the block though for a 2.4 bottom end swap.

Welcome to our humble little forum.
Just enough regulars to make it homey.
Just enough questions to keep it interesting.

You'll likely get along w Bones. 19bonestock88.
He hasn't had an ion mod bud for years.

Good to have you aboard.

Feel free to respectfully abuse the off topic section. That's why it's there.

Just a couple questions from the resident “Ion guy”...

why the built head on stock short block? Some stock L61s have had pistons fail (ring lands usually) below 250whp and some have had them hold almost 400whp, but my point is that the stock rotating assembly is weak sauce...

you mentioned nothing about about power goals, on what fuel, or using what injector? 220 wheel on pump gas? I’ll sell you a set of LSJ take offs... 375 wheel on E? You’ll need a set of 1000cc or *maybe* 80# with boost referenced fuel pressure...

what do do you plan on using for fuel/ignition management? You should know the stock PCM isn’t supported by any company, hence why these cars aren’t boosted as often as others are

Its not really built. Motor jumped time and I bent 12 valves. Had fun sending it too. Just replaced with stock lnf stuff.

Rods are the weakest part of the l61. Plan is to blow a whole in it so I can use an le5 bottom end. Gonna have a bolt on reluctor wheel made so I can retain stock harness.

I have no power goal. I know on the l61 ill make roughly 225 to 250. Once I switch to the le5 stuff ill just keep it under 400 since its fwd. Dont need a dump queen.

Fuel will be 93. Its everywhere. Pump will be a walboro255 and a return style system from a cavy. For now I'm going to use stock lsj injectors. Whenever those max out ill up to 42s. That will be plenty for the l61 short block.

80s get lsjs into mid 300s.

Most people don't realize the 03/04 ecm pretty much relearns itself. I've tested ethanol 93 and 87 with close monitoring along with every n/a bolt on on the market for it. A resistor in some areas of the harness keeps codes off.
Will it work when it sees boost? Gonna find out. If not, you can make a piggy back from junkyard stuff.

What data did your testing between the two different fuels produce?

DropDead 04-22-2019 11:58 AM

It loves 93. Take some driving for the timing to adjust. E85 works good as well, but same thing. And a throttle relearn is needed. But it will start out pig rich and gradually lean out.

Was this a purely “seat of the pants” feel, or did you measure any data?

DropDead 04-24-2019 08:09 AM

I wouldnt advertise "by the seat of my pants"

Elm327 with torque pro app. Better than a wide band for under $20
