Hi! Really interested in the Aura RX. What would one recommend for tire/wheel size for maximum miles per gallon Please serious question! I drive for max mpg. Thanks, Bill

I don't have an exact tire/wheel size to suggest, but consider the following: Taller Tire = Less RPM = Higher MPG. Shorter Tire = More RPM = Lower MPG. Wider Tire = Bigger Contact Patch With Road = Less MPG. NarrowTire =Smaller Contact Patch With Road =More MPG. There's gonna be some other factors, such as tire tread, weather conditions, highway driving vs. city driving, etc. that will also affect the milage you're getting. |
All your info is great and correct...If the original tire size for the RX is 225-50-18, i was thinking of going to 225-55-18. The speedo would be off approx 2 mph. Larger diameter/lower revs/very slight change in handling. I could also go with a narrower 215 but then I think I would be compromizing handling.????

Yes, the handling may be a little less, but it's hard to argue exactly how much less cornering capability you'd lose. I will say one thing tho; for very wet conditions and for snowy conditions the narrower tire will not hydroplane as easliy and it will cut through the snow easier. just a thought

A link that should help out. If it does not work it's only because you need to do the suggested upgrade. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html ps: everything is compromizing to something otherEdited by: sw2cam |
