Thought I had better introduce myself
 

Hello Saturn community.
I joined up here last week and immediately posted in the classified, thinking back maybe I should do an introduction and see how I can contribute and learn from this site.
My name is Mick, and "toomanycars" really means too many projects.
I live in Sacramento, a transplant from Washington state and like the weather here much better,\. Being able to own a convertible had have the top down most of the year is sweet for a car guy.
My 95 SC2 looks like it is time for an engine rebuild and I just do not have the time or space for it now. Over the last 12 years it had been my daily commute car and I gained a lot of respect for it and how dependable of a car it is (never stranded me, not once)
My current project is a 1968 Datsun 1600 Roadster, I started it with a body and frame sitting in a field behind someones house. The journey begins.....
I sourced a JDM SR20DET S14 Blacktop pulled from a 96 Silvia, removed the Datsun body from the frame and started from there. had the frame blasted and painted, modified it for the SR and 5 speed. upgraded the brake system, installed a EZ wire 20 circuit wiring harness, installed all electric gauges and now I am prepping the body for paint.
My other project, but not as radical is a 1967 El Camino, pretty much stock other that I added disc brakes and under dash AC (remember Sacramento gets hot)
So in a nutshell that is a little about me.

Very nice to meet you and welcome. Beautiful projects! What kind of exemption do you need to smog a car like that?

Luckily (for now) in California if it is older than 1975, it is exempt so my 1967 & 68 cars pose no SMOG challenges, My 1995 ( SC2) is a different story, that is why i an not too excited to rebuild the engine as any modification and it would not pass smog. The frustrating part of that is even if the tailpipe output is clean, there is the "Visual" inspection that looks for any modifications.
I had a friend that would have to remove his aftermarket cold air intake and install the stock one when SMOG time came around just because it was not the factory installed equipment and would not pass it.

Anyway I look forward to being a contributing member here and learning as much as I can.

I had been a "Lurker" for years on many forums, it is amazing what you can learn from browsing the FAQ sections when you need to work on these cars, a quick search and there is a detailed How To and excellent advice at your fingertips.

Cool projects, man. What engine and transmission are in the El Camino? I had a buddy years ago that restored a 64 with a 283 and powerglide. He later moved up to a 327 with a turbo 350.

Nothing fancy in the El camino, stock 283 but I replaced the powerglide with a TH350. Other than adding Disc brakes and vintage air it is pretty much the same as it was in 1967.

I always liked the mid and late 60's El Caminos. Nice that you're keeping it close to stock.
