New SC2 owner.

Hi all, name's Matt, and I recently purchased a 2002 SC2. So far I love it, paid 2k and got a whole lot for my money. Not a thing wrong with it. The absolute BIGGEST problem with it was a burned out driving light ($7 at walmart). I'm the 3rd owner, put 140 miles on it in the 4 days I've owned it, and it's great.
Though I am concerned about how much of a cop magnet my RED sports coupe, driven by an under 25 male, will be. lol

welcome.

Monitor your oil level CLOSELY during your initial ownership and change your oil regularly if you want it to last.

Is there an issue with these engines losing oil?

Welcome to the forum. Yep, the 1.9 is known as an oil user. I check mine once a week and don't have to add but about a quart between the 5,000 mile oil changes I do on it. Some folks are not as lucky. Checking it weekly is recommended.

Anyone know what causes it? Abnormal piston ring wear? Poor PCV valve design?

derf 01-05-2012 10:28 PM

oil control rings and valve guide seals are the main culprits which allow oil to pass into the cylinders
