When the fuel prices sky-rocketed, hubby and I decided we needed fuel economy for a small expenditure of money. The Chevy pickup and GMC Jimmy were hogs on fuel. Found a 1993 SC2 for sale private, drove it, were astounded at the power on 138K mile car, and bought on the spot for $950. Added muffler and new tires for inspection, cleaned interior, buffed exterior, and she looks like new (except for a few nicks). I drive her 50+miles/day, and she hasn't eaten a bit of oil. She's still got original alternator, and all looks like original stock parts, exceptradio and speakers. It started out getting 27MPG, but has deteriorated to 24MPG, but is better than the 16MPG of Jimmy. It stutters a bit now that winter's here, but we can't get over the pep this tired little thing has. Can't image the performance when it was new. We're hooked. We're now at 143K+ and she's still humming. BUT . . . what's up with the Service Engine Soon light on & off all the time. We've cleaned wire ends, checked fuses, replaced sensors, and can't get it to go away. The car runs like a raped ape, so can't understand the light flashing all the time. Can anyone help?? Also a little dissappointed there's so little aftermarket stuff for this car. We'd like a few more horsies, but a cold air intake is a bit pricey for a $950 car. Don't get down about the aftermarket. It's coming up fast. As for thew light it may have to do with the same reason your gas mileage is decreasing. SUre, mileage will decrease slightly over time but it shouldn't drop 3 miles/gal in 5,000 miles. Have you checked your air filter or cleqaned your fuel system lately? As for the check engine light, you can buy a hand held scanner from any auto parts store for about $25 (approx.) and it will tell you what the light is for (fuel sytem, ignition, exhaust, etc.)
