New and looking for advice for my saturn sl1

Hi, I have 1995 saturn sl 1. There's alot I don't know about car so any kind of advice for this would be greatly appreciated. For starters the owners before me did alot to the car like took out the ac part completely. I'd like to maybe fix that but again I have no clue where to start so if I could be pointed in the right direction that would be great. Thank you!!

Welcome.

To restore the AC system, we'd need a good couple of underhood photos to determine what they removed. They may have been trying to shed extra weight to improve the MPG of the vehicle. Hypermiling was also not unheard of with these cars.

I know they used to make a pulley attached to a plate that you could mount in place of the AC compressor in situations where you didn't want to repair the AC compressor or replace it but you needed the AC pulley to be there because of the serpentine belt length and routing. I also think they made a shorter belt If you just wanted to remove the AC compressor.

The 1.9 engines are known for oil usage, so I'd suggest you check it regularly. Also, if you start having shift problems with the crappy TAAT4 transmission, it may need some shift solenoids replaced. Derf is our resident S series guru and he's done a lot of research on them over the years. If you have problems with yours, just post them here and he'll be on it like a duck on a June bug!
