Default New to the forum, but not to forums..

I'm new here, but a regular on SHOforum. I've been reading on here all day for the most part but i'm finally at the point where i need to start a thread. I'll do that in the appropriate section though.

I'm for the most part a Ford man. I'm really into SHOs and i have a really nice one too. Looking for a car that gets better gas mileage so i picked up a 99 SL2 today. I got it at the Nashville/Davidson County(lol) impound lot. It was a DUI seizure so i know nothing of its history. I plan to be here quite a bit looking for info and asking advise. Like i said, i'm not new to forums so i will always use the search feature before i start a new thread. Thanks in advance for any input that you might provide.

First thing i did when i got it home was change the oil. It smokes pretty good on start up but eases off as it gets driven. I guess it has worn valve seals.

I also changed the plugs and wires. It had a hard start when i got it so i figured i should do that first, then i noticed the overheating. Thats when i got on here and read about the temperature sensor. Changed that out and now it starts fine, but it still boils over if i dont have the AC running. The fan only seems to come on when the AC is on.

Cooling fan should come on at the 3/4 mark a/c off. Blown headgasket?

No coolant in the oil, no oil in the coolant, and its smoke coming out the back not moisture. A few times around the block and the smoke stops. When idling with the AC off the temp gets to 1/2 when it starts to boil over. If i turn the AC on the fan kicks on and the temp will drop to 1/4.

Welcome to the forum, Chad. I'm about 85 miles west of you on the Tennessee River.
