New to Forum
I have a 1996 station wagon that my parents bought new (gold color/gold interior). 33k original miles, with ~13k of that while being pulled behind a motor home. My step-mother couldn't drive anymore, so I flew to Indiana last year and drove it back to Atlanta area. Other than a little "power shortage" through the mountains, it did great. Always been garaged and obviously not driven much. Beautiful condition. I am using it for my daily driver (less than 4 miles round trip/day). It still has the tow bar attachments on the front and I have the front bra.
My only issue is a left rear power window that quit working from either switch - will be checking electric connectors soon. Anyway, I look forward to participating in the forum. Thanks. Roy |
Welcome, remember vote early and vote often. Oops I meant post often.
Welcome! |
Welcome!
You'll want to get that oil changed if you haven't already. And use 10-W30 going forward unless your winters dictate otherwise. |
Welcome to the forum, indeed. If you ever decide to sell the wagon, post it here. I'm sure it would sell.
|
Thanks for the welcome. I changed the oil and checked all hoses and belts, fluids and tires before leaving Indiana (and changed it again in December). My Stepmother had the oil changed every 6 months, even when there was only 300-500 miles since the last change!
Loose connector on the window switch - everything working now. Car is garaged when not driven - sure doesn't take as much space as the '66 Buick. I will probably have to sell it within a year - retiring and downsizing from a 4 to probably a 2 car garage. But, enjoying driving it now. |
Sounds like you should name the car "goldmine"! Enjoy many happy miles with it! Even with less-than enthusiastic upkeep, 200k miles is easily reached with these cars. Enjoy! and welcome!

'66 Buick what?
I call dibs! |
1966 Buick Riviera GS, black with dove (off-white) interior. I have owned the car for 46 years.
|
Must be pretty if you've kept it that long.
I'm a sucker for a 3rd gen with that rear window. The overall shape and contours of that car so beautifully unique. Haven't seen one in 20 years. |

Thanks for the nod, Rube. But a forum requires a group; without all of you, I have no reason nor inspiration to spend my free time trying to help others. Plus I learn new things all the time. And as for the core Saturnforum family, you folks keep me going.
Sorry for the threadjack. I despise threadjacking. I should really delete this post...... |

I think that I did this right and have attached two pictures of the Riviera. Trying to find the picture of my Saturn. I guess that I will have to send it separately later.

Very nice, looks new just as described!

Black 66 Riv GS (drool)
Orig rear springs? How much? |
Yes, original springs.
Buick is not for sale - it will probably be an estate car (I have owned it for 46 years). How about a picture of your 396? |
Derf's 1969 Chevelle SS 396 (Lucy)

Here she is....Lucy
(and no, that is not me in the background) |
Nice cars, roy. And that Chevelle was sweet, derf. Keep in mind, I'm a Mopar guy, but older cars draw my attention, no matter what!
|
I am lovin the cars. That 396 is pretty sweet and a decent Riv as well.
|
Derf:
Very nice SS396! |
Thanks folks!
Wish it was mine...... That's a pic from a car show I went to this year. I know it's cliché, but those 69-72's SS 396's really do it for me. I know I will likely never own one in any condition but that's one of the reasons you go to car shows.... to appreciate the attainment of the dreams of others -- and if you're lucky, you stumble across your own dream...in the metal.... And a "thanks" to Rube for not calling me on the charade :) . Rw, there's a healthy but not overwhelming amt of shenaniganery on our site; it's all in fun, and we talk Saturns very seriously when people need our assistance. This wasn't a joke pointed at you -- it was pointed at myself b/c I was envious of your Riv and the regulars around here know I don't own a Chevelle. So please stick around |
Well, you got me good on that one. Now don't try to tell me that you have a new Peterbilt. I will, however, believe everything you have to say about Saturns. Thanks.
|
Someone around here does have a Peterbilt.....
Rube, was it Howie? I don't think so...... |
Yep, pretty sure it's Hoseppi. And remember, old truckers never die, they just get a new Peterbilt!

Since I have two posts to go, let me ask a question - has anyone had a problem with a "rattle" from their Saturn engine bay? Sounds like a loose heat shield to me. It is definitely not the engine.
|
I actually have all the crap in my sig plus 4 more. It is a pain to back down the driveway.

Have you safely gotten under the front of the vehicle while running to see if it might be a cracked piece of protective plastic on the underside of the front of the car? |
Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't been able to check it out yet - probably this weekend when it cools down to 90 degrees. I will get it up on my ramps and see if I can pinpoint it. I just turn the radio up now.
