I'm New - Negative Battery Cable on 1992 SL2

Hey Friends, I am new. My son has a 1992 Saturn SL2. It's a really nice little car, but I am just getting to know it better. I need to change the negative battery cable on it, because the bolt that screws into the (side mounted) battery connection is stripped. Does anyone know if I can remove and replace that without pulling out the air intake duct, air filter and battery pan? My Chilton manual does not go into detail at all on that procedure, but it does not seem like I can gain access to the bolt which attaches one of the negative battery cables to the engine block without pulling out some things. Any ideas?

You can just replace the bolt without replacing the whole cable. You may have to trim the plastic to get the bolt out.

I'd just put a slightly larger bolt in and see if it would cut it's own threads. After all, that's just lead and is soft. OR try a bolt about 1/2" longer with the same thread count.

I wondered about that. I was going to do that, but wasn't sure if the rubber housing around it was critical to avoiding corrosion. But I think your suggestion is a good. I ordered the cable (which was only $15.83), but I think I might replace that bold until the new cable arrives next week. Thanks!
