Hello from Kentucky

Hey guys and gals. Just signed up because my 94 SL1 is just now starting to give me a few problems.

Thanks, bought my SL1 new in 94. The odometer quit at 176,000 miles and that was 4 years ago. The only parts it has needed has been a water pump, an alternator, soon to be a power steering pump and the drivers side auto seat belt is starting to get stuck at each end. If you move it with your hand, it eventually starts going on it's own. Still getting 38 mpg, gps calculated. It has been serviced every 3000 miles.

Welcome aboard. So, what kind of problems are you having besides the seat belt?

Merkle85 06-13-2013 10:39 PM

Welcome, if you need help I can show you how to fix the odometer.

Hmmm --

I'm always up to learning new things ... how does one fix the "broken odometer" syndrome on the older mechanical recording system??

Merkle85 06-14-2013 01:38 PM

It's a small gear inside the gauge cluster, inside the odometer assembly unit itself.

Dtruck1 06-14-2013 04:57 PM

Lol, I figured a gear wore out. The speedometer works fine so it is not the VSS. I have always kept track of how much gas and what the odometer reading was at fill up in a little notepad. Now I just keep track of the gallons of gas I put in. At every 100 gallons, she gets a service. Not too interested on fixing the odometer at this point. Let's face it, the car is worthless if I wanted to sell it. I just runs too darn good.

As far as problems, the auto seat belt is really the only one. Went to the junkyard today and got the assembly. Air, cruise, clutch, even CV boots are all original. I can't believe I have had this little trouble out of such a cheap car. Why in the world did GM kill Saturn?
