Hello everyone!
Hi, I'm a new guy here-I live in Oakland,CA, and have a 2004 Ion 1. I inherited it from my in-laws, and am engaged in trying to renew a car that has been driven over curbs, etc.
Great to be here! |
Welcome to the Forum ...

Welcome to the forum, man. And congratulations on the engagement. I'm guessing you need to start with wheels and suspension.

NG51 welcome to the forum. Please take a moment to open the USER CP top left of the page and add your first name, location, and car info to your "signature". When all done add a picture or four of your Saturn and other cars if you like to this thread. We like pictures.
|
I'll say welcome to the Saturn Forum. I'll also say I hope to see you post, and be part of this forum. A number of subjects are posted, not all of them are "how do I fix this" so I hope to see you get involved.

I'm thinking you've got a bad cv joint in the axle assembly. It's a hell of a lot easier and faster to just replace the axle than try to replace a cv joint. Much quicker and less labor intensive too.
|
Thanks, Charlie-ordered an axle, and will install this weekend.
I actually like the car quite a bit- just seems to crank up and go. Being an old guy, and having owned about 75 cars(including a whole bunch of British, French, and Italian ones-don't get me started...), I'm always amazed at how reliable the new cars are compared to the 'classics'. I'll take a picture and post it this weekend. Going to check out the other forums now. |
Neil for the most part the main users of thie site are old guys......I'll not get into just who is the oldest but it might go something like this....sw2, unc, ocean, derf. With me being the youngest and best looking. Mandee our #1 female user is the youngest and the prettiest of all.
When it comes to modern cars it blows me away how bloody fast 4 bangers are today. My ION Redline is faster, handles, and stops better than the famed 64 GTO.....Thats stock vs stock but hell think about that. Chit we would have never thought that possible back then. Again welcome to our forum....enjoy. PS: Thanks for making a signatue .... add your location if you will, the state you live in works just fine. |
I sure hope that cures the problem, Neil. If I'd known you were going to replace it, I'd have recommended a couple of things to do to check it. The easiest thing for me is to find a vacant parking lot and roll the windows down and do some figure 8's at various speeds. Usually if you have a bad one, you'll hear that sum beech click in the turns. And I'm not sure that Rj has that age thing right or not, but I'm 57 years old and still turn my own wrenches. I'm disabled and it takes me a lot longer than it used to, but I just don't trust other people to work on my cars.
