Hello all,

I bought my first Saturn a few months and after performing a few fixes I thought I'd go ahead and join the boards for more technical insight. I'm not new to wrenching or forums but bare with me as I learn the specific rules of this community.

Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana

The car:

1994 Saturn SL
1.9L TBI SOHC
Beige/Tan color

The car had been towed behind an R.V. and used occasionally, the tow bar has since been removed. These pics were taken the day I went to go look at it after finding it on Craigslist.

This was taken after giving the engine bay a wash.

As I mentioned above, I have already fixed a slew of problems on this car and, there are many more to fix. It stopped running a few days ago and the starter went out so it's back at the apartment awaiting time for me to get up under it and start inspecting the issues. (Not asking for help, just stating the current state of the car) :D

I bought it for $550, and it's super cheap to insure. It makes for a great beater to drive around town. My girlfriend drives it mostly to and from work and it works out great for that.

I'll make a more detailed journal type thread later, just wanted to drop in and introduce myself.

This is my main ride:
2010 GTI - PM me about this one if you have questions.

Welcome to the Saturn Forum

Not many rules other than respect others. Keep your account active and post, post as much as you want and as often as you want. Post pictures in every post if you like. Read my signature below that covers it. Get to posting.

As far as the GTI goes talk about it all you like, post pictures and list it's mods.

Right on, sounds simple enough.

I need to post a link to my build thread about the GTI on Golfmk6.com It's too many for me to list right now, lol. I'm also a moderator on that forum. The site is down for maintainer at the moment, I'll post a link later.

I read your signature in another thread. Seemed like a straight forward approach.

Welcome aboard, man. You got a good deal on that car. The SOHC may not be as peppy as the DOHC, but it won't use as much oil either. I had the SOHC and didn't have to add any oil between 5,000 mile oil changes. The DOHC is the one you really have to keep an eye on. And that is a sweet VW you have too.

Welcome to the forum - and let us know what you turn up on your Saturn's problem

Thanks man, that GTI is a blast to drive, test drive one when you can. It's comfortable and has a few luxuries like Sat-nav and DVD player, all OEM. But, then when you want to be a total idiot, just mash the gas!

This engine burns A LOT of oil. It also leaks some, albeit a few drops a day, not much. The car as a whole was neglected and never taken care of. I'll post a 'before' picture of the engine bay. It will make any car lover cry. The interior is absolutely horrid, I still need to remove the seats and steam the carpet. It had a bad leak and the carpet stayed soaked so it's got a lovely mildew smell. Remember it was a $500 car.

It stopped running, and then the starter went out. I need to replace the starter, and it's getting fuel, the TBI sprays when trying to crank it. I'm looking at ignition switch or other ignition problem.

Welcome to our Saturn site ......... it's a damn shame what some people can do to a car. I keep my wife in check on her cars or they would be more like garbage trucks.

Most of the issues like the headliner and the trunk have been cleaned up but, there is still much to do. I still don't have a spare for it yet. I pay for roadside so It's not a huge worry. Plus to and from work is a 5 mile commute.
