I am looking at a couple of Saturns to possibly buy for my son and I
was wondering what the most common problems are with the mid 90's
models? I have heard good things about Saturns and would like to get my
son into a nice car that gets exceptional mileage. If this works out
you will have 2 new forum members!

Basically I want to know what to look for like rusty frames or oil leaks, anything that you get a lot of tech questions on here.

the only problem that i had with my first saturn was a rear main seal oil leak, valve cover leak, just the oxygen sensor went out and that was because it was ran hard from when i got it at 100,000 miles and ran really well up to 150,000, then i completely rebuilt it with all forged internals and turbo'd it, but at around 208,000 i was hit by a rig and the car was totaled, now i'm a proud owner of a 2006 redline

 

it lasted 58k with a tubo?

 

We bought a 97 SC2 loaded with all options and a 5 speed manual trans. Nice car!

 

Had it had any prior issues?

 

Nothing that I know of. The glove box is full of service records so it appears to have been taken care of.
