2004 Vue - baseline 3.5L Honda engine, need part that has been discontinued

Hello all, I've had my 2004 Vue since 2007 (bought it used) it now has 320k miles and I still love it. Regular maintenance has been done. Took it in for a tune up and got it back and on the way home it wouldn't shift into 5th gear. It still runs like a champ but I won't go over 50ish in fear of blowing the motor/trans. I've been told the GM part number is 24228212 (neutral/safety switch) but every place I've called or looked into says it's discontinued.

I found one in a junkyard and will be having it replaced tomorrow.

My questions are:

1) Does anyone know if someone out there has this part?

2) Is this a good idea or am I chasing the wind?

3) Is there anyone in a southern state (I'm in Michigan) that can get this part since the ones I have found are in pretty bad shape (rust mostly)

4) Was this part used in any other years?

Please advise,

PT

The diagnosis was the neutral safety switch was bad. It needs to be replaced. I don't have any codes or anything else since I took it to the trans shop about a year ago.

I do believe that is a park neutral switch and is there to ensure the gear selector is actually in park or neutral --- the only 2 shifter positions where the starter can be engaged.

I could maybe understand the switch also failing to tell the PCM the vehicle is in drive, but 4th limiting is not a limp mode that I know of in Saturns.

Did they pull a Body B code indicating the switch?

Sounds more like a shift solenoid issue, but I am far from an automatic transmission expert? Though I'd expect a ses light for that.
