What to do with new found knowledge

Okay, 2 tanks of fuel, no smells, no stuttering, no oil burn, no slippage, spanked 2 911Ss (ok, maybe they were Yugos), in my finally completed auto to manual swap 2000 SL2. Back to where I was 3 years ago with the window registers, dash lights, minor weirdness.

Now I've got this great, low mileage engine that I don't know what it fits. I'm hoping it's not the dreaded '99 only fits here model. I'm wanting to put it a wagon for my son's young family grocery-go-getter, but I have run across a clean and straight '97 SC2 with a bad motor for $250, which is a very good buy if my engine will work.

How do I tell what engine I have? PAX

PS
I'm at work, graveyard.

DOHC
99+ will have black cam cover + black plastic intake (POS)
96-98 will have black cam cover + metal intake
91-95 aluminum cam cover + metal intake

Or there should be a VIN sticker long and thin with the Saturn logo and the VIN, which you could then look up

Or you could just look at the factory production date stamped into the block and take it on faith that no swapsies have taken place

Well, from my learning the hard way, what I sure I've got is a low mileage '96-'98, as my '00 plastic intake didn't come close to fitting.

I'm off to look at a '97 SC2 automatic with a bad motor, every thing else looks straight, $250, which I think is a very good buy. If it's as nice as the picts, I'll stab this motor in it, and put the bad engine aside until I can look at it and see if it's serviceable.

That'll get me in a coupe for $550, and I'll turn over my sedan for seed money.

With this forums help and learning the hard way, I'm off to explore yet another platform. I've resisted the transition from points to CCM as long as I could. Thanks all, I'll be back with picts. PAX

PS,
My Tiger is off to the body shop this year too!!
