Default valve cover bolt replacement

so i have some broken bolts on my valve cover on a 97 saturn sc2. What i am asking is i know that GM doesn't make these bolts anymore however i can not find them in a junkyard also. I was hoping that someone would know if there is some way of rigging some other bolt? If that was possible?

Measure the bolt and thread pitch and go buy some the same length at your local hardware store. IF you're close to a Saturn friendly GM dealership, check with them first, though. That way, you know you're getting exactly what you need. If no hardware store is near, go to your nearest auto parts store. Just take one of the old bolts with you so they can match it for you.

ok,, thanks.. i needed to hear that.. when i talked to a guy at napa a few days ago he said i would have to find the exact same bolt from a junkyard and that there is no substitute for the factory one's. I'm from tennessee too and in the back of my mind there is a sayin , " there is always more than one way to skin a goat".. I will post tomorrow with what happens.. I looked thru every forum and google search and have found no discussions on this matter. It seems either it's common sense or no one has had this problem.. thanks again.

The local hardware store would be a good start too. Usually a little cheaper then tha parts store and a better selection. Always remember Ace is the place.

so at least on my valve cover the valve cover bolts have a sheath that has to be on the new bolt to be used on the valve cover. i'm surprised that no one that i have asked or talked to knew that. i cut the sheath off the broken bolts and slipped them onto the new one's.. anyway's besides that .. car's back together .. phew.. that sucked

I had no idea! Next trip to pull a part and I'm going to yank a few just to see what you're talking about. What part of TN are you in? I'm on the border of Middle TN and West TN, right on the Tennessee River.
