Transmission - buying more time

I have been having transmission problems with my 2008 SaturnVue (90,214 miles) for about one month. The error codes(e.g. P0752) seem to be pointing to a problem with the shift solenoid. So far,a dealership (where they barely looked at my car) quoted me $1600 to replace thewhole TCM, even though the problem might be with just one solenoid. I cannotafford $1600 at this time.

While I try and come up with a solution, do youthink changing the transmission fluid and coolant might buy me some time? Ormaybe installing a transmission cooler? My car tends to act up when it’s hotand often is okay when it is cool so it seems that cooling it might help in theshort term.

I just find it very stressful driving when it is acting up as it’sdifficult to get the car to go faster than 35 mph on 45 mph roads, and of coursethe people behind me are not happy! On top of that, it’s just very nerveracking, as I keep wondering if the car is going to break down while I am driving to and from work (20 miles each way).
