so im thinking about switchign my transmision from auto to manual...so i can practice...

my parents are going to pay for the engine...transmissions arent that expensive..

does anyone know approximately how much im going to be expected to pay for install...

and how much a hastle it is...

if its a big hastle like the ion engine to an SL2 then i wont mess with it...

id rather double check on hre then get it an have to pay an outrageous amount of money for extra stuff i didnt now needed to be done...

 

Not that big of a deal as deals go, but if your going to pay someone to do it it's starts turning into a big deal. it's all about how much money you want to spend. You have a few more parts to buy besides the tranny.

Flywheel
Clutch Disc
Preasure Plate
Throw out bearing
Pilot bushing
Slave cly

ive always wanted to have a manual...

but i got the car for free...and it is auto...

ive heard manuals are really fun to drive...

and i drove my friends accord the other day...it was fun...and not too hard...

but he wont let me drive his car much because im not insured in it...and his parents will kill him...

so i need my own...

i figure if its not too expensive to have someone do it for me it wouldnt be too bad...
but i doubt im doing it now...

my parents are probably goign to sell my car...since the engine is blown...

 

so...even if i go to a junkyard and get a manual tranny right out of another saturn...id still need all that stuff...

i thought junkyards had to sell everything with it...its like an ebrake...junkyards cant sell just the lever for it...they have to sell you the whole ebrake console or theyd ruin the saleability of the ebrake with just the lever gone...

so...the same would go with a tranny right...

it would come with most everything i need right...

id just need a clutch pedal installed and connected...

and a manual boot and shifter...

I have complete instructions on how to do this on my website. I've done it many times. Its not that hard of a job to do yourself, but if you have to pay someone to do it, its not worth it.

As far as parts go, you'll need

-Transmission (what model and year depends on your car)
-Hydrolic assembly (what year depends on your car)
-Flywheel
-Clutch disc (what year depends on your car)
-Pressure plate (what year depends on your car)
-Flywheel bolts (you can not use the flexplate bolts!!)
-Clutch Pedal and related mounting hardware.
-Brake pedal and related mounting hardware.
-PCM (year, model and option specific)
-Shifter assembly
-Shift cables
-Shifter boot (year specific)
-Shift ****

Plus you need to hard wire in the ability for the reverse lights to work. And depending on the year of the car, you will need to add pinouts to the PCM and the back of the cluster for the "Up Shift" light to work. If you dont, you'll get a service engine light.
