Removing the spoiler
How do I remove the rear spoiler from my 2 door coupe? I got the (4) 10mm bolts and nuts out, but I cant get it off. I read that it may have something like RTV around the bolts, and that you have to separate it from the "sealer." I don't know what the sealer looks like so I don't want to pull to hard. It seems there's only one way to go, and that's up...I don't want to break anything and make this little project a big one. Has anyone here replaced/ remover the spoiler before? Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks

I took the one off my 95 SC1 and had no problem at all. I just removed the four nuts and pulled up on it gently. It came right off. Of course, I put it back on after I repainted it.

That's my plan too... just a fresh coat and right back on. I guess I'll use a little more force, I've been finding black silicone holding things together, like one of the side marker lights and parts of the front bumper...so maybe this is another

Black silicone? Sounds like the rain might have been getting into the trunk ...

I didn't find any type of sealer on mine, just a couple of gaskets. Does yours have gaskets? If not, perhaps it's been off before for some reason.

Black Silicon!
That stuff triggers nothing but bad vibes for me. It seems to be the universal cure all for what ever automotive problem that exists. Goo it up with stuff in a tube. I have rarely found it to be anything more than an additional thing to deal with while solving a problem that should have been solved by replacement, a new gasket, proper service and the list is endless frankly, how ever it has singularly created more problems or added to existing ones. Now I have seen it effectively work! But only where part of the repair directions actually called it out as something to be used and also outlined how it should be used. But that actually has been extremely rare. My guess some one was actually using it like glue. And things are stuck. |
