power lock security breach?

We have an 06 Vue that is presenting me with a problem. We have come out to an unlocked car in the morning about 8 times in the last month. It has gotten to the point where both my wife and I go out to witness the other locking the car. This is only happening at home, it has yet to happen at work.

To my thinking one of two things is going on - the car has a random fault and is unlocking itself, or someone in the area is broadcasting a signal that is unlocking the car. (seems more likely as it is not happening at work)

If it is a fault, where should I start looking?

Is there a way to chance the code/frequency to lock out the wrong signal?

Forgot to add this is a base model Vue. 2.2 motor with 5 speed

You need to reset with a TECH II, and both remotes must be present.

Any low battery conditions remote or car might cause a problem. Reprogram the remotes and go from there.

Thanks! Any recommendations on where to get tech II? The shop I go to just quoted around $150 to plug in and do the programming. I have an OBD2 scanner but I'm sure it lacks the capability to do anything other than engine codes.

You may be able to pick up a used one for $1000.00 bucks with the candi module via ebay. Start going to a new shop......Stop at your nearest Chevy dealer price to reprogram remotes will be far less, and can be done right on the service drive in a matter of minutes.

My nearest Chevy dealer would most likely tell me it's a rare part and they would have to keep the car a week while they do a special order...

Is it possible that someone is leaving their key fob jammed up in a pants pocket and something else in the pocket is leaning on the unlock button.

It has happened to me. With the fob in my pocket. While driving. With the panic button.

It CAN happen.

My vote is that it's your husband's pocket stuff.

Or, if you are leaving your keys in a common area in the house and you have young children, there's a little mischief at work..

Still guessing it's a pocket jam up of something against the key. If it was someone else's transmitter --which is possible-- I would think it would happen more frequently.

To test that theory, just approach your two nearest neighbors on your side of the street and those across the street and ask them to cycle through the buttons on their fobbs for all their cars to see if there is indeed a commonality.

I've only had this happen once in 18 years in a parking lot -- my door lock/unlock transmitter signal matched the panic alarm enable/disable signal for some other dude's ride.

Oh well.
