I have an 1991 SC2. Recently was changing the plugs and found oil on 2 of the 4. What does this mean? The car would not start and one plug was literally coated with oil. I suspect the car wouldn't start because the chamber was flooded with oil and the plug would not fire. I was planning to sell the car and was getting it ready for sale. Is it worth selling now? Can this problem be fixed? Is it worth it? Thanks for any advice.

 

If you're talking about the hole in the valve cover where the spark plug fits being full of oil what you have to do is remove the valve cover and clean off the silicone from the outside edge and the circl where its supposed to seal around the spark plugs and re-silicone it and reinstall. My kids car did this and I ended up using brake cleaner on a rag to wipe down the area aound the spark plug hole to get a good seal with the silicone. The first time I did the re-seal I did'nt wipe it down with brake cleaner and it just filled the spark plug pocket in the valve cover again. Use the copper silicone from the parts house. It seals better than the gray or the black.

 

I have the same problem with my '94 SC2, but it's only one spark plug filled with oil. Changing the valve cover gasket should fix it.

 

Yes, change the cam cover gasket.


...but be sure your plu wires are clean! The oil can get into the wires and contaminate them, and THEN the wires will not carry full current to the plugs. If the wires have been soaked on the ends, you may need to toss them and get new ones.Edited by: LGO-SC2

 

mine did it too it came out of the bolts at the top of the valve cover change the gasket and put rtv on all the corners and around the spark plug holes where the gasket hit.............i did and presto fixed
