MMO soak
Just an update on my 1997 SAturn SL 146,000 miles. Was burning 1 quart of 10w-30w penzoil motor oil every 2500-3000 miles. Have done 2 Marvel's Mystery Oil soaks with 2 ounces in each cylinders combustion chamber, the remainder poured in the crankcase. First soak just over 8 hours with number one cylinder having standing oil at end of soak. Second soak was almost 16 hours with all cylinders dry except number three, which had a small amount of standing oil. Ran 4 ounces of MMO in a full gas tank times two. After 400 miles I have changed the oil and replaced the oil filter. Will post results after 2500-3000miles of use. I am hoping for some improvement, 1/2 quart of oil per 3000 miles would be great. If no change I will repeat two more soaks. Anyone have any suggestions?
Paulorlo,
I just pulled apart a dohc engine and looked into why there are so many smoking engines out there and know there is a lack of good oil flow and believe the only true way to fix it is rebuild. MMO,tranny fluid , and the like prolong the inevitable but it may also dislodge crud and then she trully blows up like rod, piston, suck valve and all those other nasty`s that make you want to cus and hit something.Good luck. I just poured some in mine and redlined every gear for a little bit and seems to have done ok. In fact I have half the smoke I used to.I have not fully rebuilt it but will post some pictures if I can figure out how.

Hmmm, half as much smoke......that sounds "successful".
Good idea with the redlining -- that should help to create additional wear that wasn't there before.....
If you want to cut down on the smoke entirely, fill the crankcase to the tippy top with sand and continue redlining -- nothing like a good internal sanblasting. Just make sure there is NO oil in there - otherwise the sand sticks to it.....Crank the engine until it will turn no more...Won't smoke after you're done.....

Derf-enjoyed your humor-got a good laugh out of it this morning.Could call your new procedure the sand soak red line express.
I now have driven 609 miles since the oil and filter change and I am 3/10ths of one quart down on the dip stick. Yes I counted the number of cross hatched marks on the dip stick so that I could be as accurate as possible. Check oil in the morning with the car parked in the garage ( level surface). Maybe it is my imagination, but the oil on the dip stick looks cleaner to me than before I did the 2X MMO soak. Even if there is no noticable reduction in oil consumption I plan to repeat the MMO soak at 2,600 miles and then run the car with MMO in the crankcase for 400 miles and then change oil and filter. Hope is to gradually clean out the varnish coating the parts inside the motor.

derf,
I guess someone has to be **** and do everything just so.I figure it`s an excuss to blow it up rather than pollute the environment, as to sand well that is an Idea get an early start on 30 or 45 over piston sizing. I guess I like to have fun got the car almost two years ago smoked worse than it does now and have gotten offers of twice what I paid for the car.I have a motor sitting around a tranny, cradles,A favor in the making.I think I am going to try some 10 to 20 psi boosts on the intake though. that way I can test with this motor to see if the concept is doable.

Onesmart (Dude</span>)-- ya know I was just kiddin'--- I'm not really that ****...
Check out www.turbosaturns.net -- these guys are all over saturn "peformance" stuff -- I'm sure they'll help you out and can probably save you time and $$ letting you know what might work and what will blow up -- unless the blowing up is an integral part of the experience for you......

Derf,
KO no biggie it is hard to raise kids take care of house and wife not working. Sacrifices that some day GOD willing will pay off.Meanwhile blowing up engines and having some cheap fun that I can fix myself is a release
from the grind.
