1996 SC2 (DOHC) it had low compression, almost a gallon of coolant in the crankcase, and some oil in the coolant. I disassembled the engine assuming it was a head gasket but there didn't appear to be anything wrong with it. What I need to know is, is it common for a saturn DOHC to crack somewhere? Hopefully I can find out soon so I can take necessary action. Thanks

i believe that if you look at the head under a black light, it may show the crack, otherwise, i would check with a machine shop, or any performance shop

the head is definently cracked.

oil in the coolant, but no coolant in the oil is typical for saturns with a cracked head, most of the time they will even pass california smog

Just to follow up, I've got the car running finally.

The engine was overheated and the head badly warped, too much to be machined.

I got a used head off ebay, engine good as new!
