Default Learning curve...the saga continues

As you can see, I'm building up my post count, kinda like padding your log book with P-51 time.

So my top rebuild only lasted about 20K miles. Normally I'd just give up on a rig, but in this instance, it got me where I was urgently needed without fail, so I wasn't going to abandon it yet.

Scrounging for a "DOHC" motor, I find one near by for $400, sitting in a shop on the floor. I check it out, put a $40 deposit, go get my truck, THEN do some research.

Motor I'm after has grey rocker cover, mine is black.

Go back to shop, tell them it's not a straight swap: "Gee that's too bad, a guy came in right after you to buy it, so I lost a sale, you lose your deposit".

I could have made it work how? More than I was willing to go through. PAX

let's see

the grey cam covers were used up through at least 95 and the black ones were on the 97's (I own one of each), so you'd basically be transplanting a 95 DOHC into a 97-98 vehicle. I took the liberty of limiting the black one to 2nd gen because of the difference in exhaust manifold bolts up to 98 vs 99-02. I chose 95 b c it is the first year w the electronic EGR valve. Earlier (91-94) engines had the vacuum controlled EGR and that just ain't gonna fly here.

You'd have to swap in a 95 PCM, low impedance fuel injectors, and the complete wiring harness for a 95. Plus buy an extra ECTS to fill the hole in the head where the temp sensor for the dashboard went

Oh and since 95 is OBD I you'd need yo retrofit the ALDL to and ODB1.

Might need to change the dash as well...can't remember. Whatever

Exactly what I thought. There was going to be way too much needed and I wasn't willing to throw more time at it, so I ate the deposit. PAX
