I have recently had an issue trying to actually get my key into the ignition of my 99 SC2. There's a small strip of metal going across the ignition that usually moves once my key goes in. There's been a couple instances within the past 2 weeks where it doesn't move and I cannot get my key in at all. I have let it sit for a couple hours and came back to it and it has worked, but I am having the same issue right now. Has this happened to anyone else before? Any suggestions?

I'm sure not an expert, but since no one else has replied to you I will. You may have to replace the whole lock cylinder, which will cost you around $130 if you can do it yourself. My key was hard to get in and just wouldn't turn at all, and my dad had to drill the old one out to get the new one in. Andyou can only get this at the Saturn dealer.

 

Got to the Dealer and get another key cut..usually that will fix the binding or hard to turn issue.

 

Maybe a very lightspritz of WD-40 can free up the slight binding of the slot cover that's spring loaded. Tapping the slot will free it followed by a light spray of WD-40 to lube the dry area. I don't think its necessary to replace the entire lock cylinder yet.

 

illtell you right now get a new cylinder. those cars are known for them to go out, but when you do that have the dealer cut you a brand new key, not one from the one you have.

 

I HAVE HAD THAT SAME PROBLEM WITH MINE FOR YEARS. HAVENT HAD TO SPEND $130 ON A NEW LOCK YET. IT WAS VERY FRUSTRATING AT FIRST. NOW,I JUST TILT MY KEY A LITTLE TO GET IN BEHIND THAT COVER. ITS REALLY NO BIGGIE ONCE YOU FIGURE OUT THE RIGHT ANGLE. I AGREE WITH DUCKY A SPRITZ OF WD WORKS WONDERS. AND ITS MUCH CHEAPER THAN REPALCING A WHOLE LOCK ASSEMBLY.

Just an note to this I have the same issue on a 97 sc1, and to add to this the key will only activate if it is inserted one way filip the key over and you can insert the key but you can not engage the starter my solution ws to lubercate the unit file the bottom of the key so the correct position can be noted. pain in the A$$
