Hi, I have a 1998 SL2 and my horn recently stopped working. It started making a squeaking noise instead of honking so I figured it was the horn itself, not the wiring or a fuse. So I went and got a new one at autozone, that physically looks very similar to the old one. My problem is the wiring is different. On the stock one there is a plug with three wires going into it. On the new one there are only two contacts for wires. I asked a neighbor about this and they were also confused about the third wire. Im no car expert and dont know much about wiring either but I thought this would be pretty simple. Can someone explain this to me or give me some advice? Thanks.

1998sl2 ...
What colour are the wires going into that connector ?? |
The horn you bought requires the use of an offboard relay whiceh would be located in the fuse box like older Saturs. Later model Saturns like yours have a horn with a built in relay. Thats the reason for the third wire.
Here is the wiring for the factory horn: Cavity A**Orange**Horn Control Cavity B**Black**Switch 12V+ Cavity C**Black**GroundEdited by: Low Saturn |
Thank you that is helpful. Does this mean that I need to get a relay then?
