I have a 2003 L200 and I'm trying to take off the heater hose but can't figure out how to disconnect the coupler connector on the firewall (the hose came off the coupler and was last replaced 3 years ago). I've tried sliding the coupler ring forward and back but can't get it apart. Is there a certain tool required? Appreciate any input.

 

Go down to your local AutoZone/ NAPA/ O'Rileys - etc, and purchase a Chilton manual for your car. On page 3-17, it discusses the "specialized locking couplers" you refer to, and gives both written and visual directions on how to get them apart

mahans7 (permanently banned)told me that he slid the heater coupler connector ring toward the firewall and then vigorously pulled on the heater hoses which eventually loosened and came off. He thanks you for your help.
