Default engine swap

good morning,

I am new to this forum and would like to thank everyone in advance. I bought my daughter a 1996 saturn sl2 . She was in an accident in which the car was totaled. She now owns a 2000 saturn sl2. My question. If I buy the car back from the insurance company are the engines interchagable? Would it be worth saving the 96 motor for possible engine swap into the 2000 down the road? The 96 has 110,000 miles and ran great

Thank you

ps: what about tranny???

Cool 96-00 parts swap

You'll have no problem with the tranny, but the engine is a little more complicated. Check out the Wikipedia article on the interchangeability of Saturn parts (swap guide). If you need the address, let me know. Howie
