Electric lock and radio/CD/tape player

Hi all,

After about a year my radio died (I got the upgraded stereo package offered at the time), and was replaced under warranty. Now it cuts in and out. A local mechanic tells me the front is warped, and so likely unfixable.

Any ideas what I should have to pay for a stock replacement?

Is it worth it? They seem somewhat unreliable. Don't want an aftermarket stereo control panel, as they mostly are just iPod ports, or something similar. Really what traditional radio (that also will play CDs and even tapes, if possible), any ideas?

Also, the last year my electronic remote lock failed. Have kept up on battery replacement/internal cleaning for the remote, etc. Hear there are generic ones that are inexpensive. Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks.

I've got a 2002 L-series car myself, and have had nothing but good luck with my stereo system. If mine were to go bad, I'd either (1) hit up the local u-pull-it yards, or (2) let my fingers do some walking on Craig'sList or e-BAY. Actual replacement of the radio is pretty easy, and you could probably accomplish it in an hour or so

ebay -- there's a dude who refurbishes the bulbs and drills out a small aux port on the front for ipod connection. he does all makes and models for less than $200 i'd expect

I've never had a single problem with any radio in any Saturn I have had, and I had my first Saturn in 1993. What year and model is your car 2000 or newer?

SW2cam --

I assume from his other posting, the car he's talking about is a 2002 L-300

Well, my local idiot mechanic took the thing out, and found what I TOLD HIM I suspected, a connection problem in the back. When the new one was installed a while back, the wires were pinched. Re-routed them and now it's fine.

Still have that issue with the remote lock having failed though. Any ideas about the inexpensive aftermarket remote locks I rumors of?

Thanks.

Have you cleaned the contacts replaced the batteries and had them reset by the dealer? I think I have a set of stock fobs for a L series $30 bucks for both plus shipping if I do.

Definately interested in the L series fobs! Tell me though, can I just stop into a dealer and have them reset them for my car for a small fee, or is it likely my reviever is the problem, and potentially costly to repair?

FTR, I did keep the contacts cleaned, and switched batteries regularly. They just stopped working, and are now beat up and chipped now, so even one in good condition, if a potential receiver problem isn't going to be costly, yes I AM interested!!! Take Paypal?
