dead engine 1999 SL2

Hi,

Yesterday I took my car in for an oil change and ended up with a dry engine. They did the change and didn't put the pump in and all of the oil came out to which I didn't know until I got 1/4 mile down the road and it died. They towed it and the "soaked it" but still didn't like the sound of the engine so they are putting a rebuilt in it today.

A little background history is that I have always takend care of the regular maintenance and usually on time. I have put in well over $3,000.00 in repairs, etc., but nothing too terribly bad has ever happened to my car.

I'm concerned that what happened may create other problems that won't be addressed with the "rebuilt engine" and would like to get input from anyone that can address this. What other things may come up now since that happened to my car? Will it affect other areas? Are there specific questions that I should ask when my car is done? They said I will have a one year warranty on the engine but what about other operating parts that I don't know about but may find out about the hard way?

The whole experience was horrible. I ended up with the vehicle dead on the highway but barely getting it off the road. I never want to relive that experience again and am looking for some reassurance from people that know Saturn. I don't know if it makes a difference but the engine had over 104,000 miles on it and no other problems!!

Thank you for any input on this.

They didn't put the oil drain plug? back in and the engine seized up will not result in tail light biulbs burning out faster or the alternator going bad.

it sounds more like they drained it but didn't add oil. like Rj stated putting another engine in shouldn't cause any other problems to come up

Thank you for the info and one more question ... is there anything in particular that I should ask them in regards to the rebuilt engine they are installing? Does it make a difference as to how many miles or how old the rebuilt engine is compared to what I had in it?

It matters more as to whom is rebuilding it.

probably the only thing to really ask is if they would do the correction with the drain holes in the piston so you don't have the oil burn issue
