cyl 2 misfire woes
 

i am still at a loss as to why i am getting cyl 2 misfires .so far i have
changed plugs
new wires
new ignition module
cleaned coil towers
swapped coils to see if it follows(it did not)
tried a new ngk plug in cyl2
run 4 tanks with injector cleaner thru engine
plugged and unplugged main engine computer (under hood silver box)to clean the connection

what next?

i have heard that it could be the intake gasket?any truth to this?

i did tighten down the intake bolts too.

should i get cyl readings next?getting frustrated with it .but it runs great! even with the engine light on .

heres one for ya ...sometimes the ses light will come on ,then go out on its own ??
now its my understanding that the light only comes on when a code is thrown ,how is the light clearing itself out?

I thought you already doused around the intake to #2 with carb cleaner. If not, do so now. If idle changes, you've found a culprit.


Do a dry and wet compression test and report the results for all cylinders. Instructions are out on the net should you need them.

The SES is set (on)when a particular set of parameters is met.
The "rule" for resetting the SES (off) depends on the nature of the code, and is usually "x" cycles where the error condition is no longer present.

nah never did spray around the intake , i guess thats next . hate to find out the intake has to come off . big job for a little engine off to the mechanic if that has to happen .

That's the first thing you should have done before wasting your money on things you most likely didn't really need.

well plugs and wires were needed at the time anyway .
again today my ses light went out on its own . how is that possible?
i thought when a code is thrown its there to stay until you manually erase it .

SES can go out on its own in the manner I described above.

That doesn't mean the occurrence of the code that triggered the SES light isn't stored somewhere. You need a scan tool that is capable of reviewing the stored historical codes. Like a gm tech II.
