Just do what derf suggested, will ya? Take the belt off, start the car and see if it stalls. DO NOT DRIVE IT. It will overheat and kill the engine entirely. If the car doesn't stall, get the fan belt that bypasses the a/c compressor and then do with it what you will. I'm officially out of this conversation now.

all I can do with my car is put oil in it and air in the tires it's prob the clutch so my mechanic thinks he can bypass it

He can look up the belt for the non ac version

thanks he is really really good with cars If I can get a littlle more out of the car I will be happy its a good car for someone that can fix cars but at this point it has a lot of issues esp with passing emissions I spent almost $1,000 2 yrs ago to get it through shortly after it passed BOOM the check engine light went on knock sensor and I think we replaced that its the same parts that keep getting coded my mechanic said it could be a short in the system I fixed one thing and the light would come back on plus it keeps hesitating no clue what is causing that when you stop put your foot on the gas the car just does not want to go it lurches

Not as far as I can tell, Andy. TBH, I don't think we ever will.

Hi I have been driving it I think its on life support LOL! My 2002 firebird is leaking the timing cover has to be fixed 2,000 job so my little Saturn is all I have for now. It makes a noise as that part is sputtering but its running ok knock on wood. I hate putting any money into it because I am looking for another car I got 10 yrs out of it 2500 pretty good buy got me around in the snow in the winter it has to pass emissions next yr so I can register it next yr last time I spent almost 1,000 to get the damn car to pass fix something the light goes back on. that check engine light has been a problem since I bought the car 10 yrs ago

Hi I am still driving it as is its running ok I don't think bypassing the air compressor will make a difference just the noise may stop my firebird Is leaking from the timing cover so the saturn for now is all I have I hate putting any more money into it at this point as I am looking for another car and its due to be registered and the check engine light is on again its been on for yrs it seems last time I had to pass emissions cost me almost 1,000 for parts everytime we changed something the light came back on then the car would not connect to the emissions testing we ended up getting someone from the emissions office to pass the damn car somehow. of course a WK after it passed the light came back on. I don't want to spend another fortune on it to pass emissions so I can register it next yr. time to move on and get another car

Just drive it until it dies and have something picked out already as a replacement. Take the tag off, get all your stuff out and leave it sitting on the side of the road. I did that with an old car I had once. It died on the interstate (engine locked up) and I got all of my stuff out, took the tag off and called my sister to come get me. I left the keys in the car and a note on it that said "Want it? Take it. The title has been signed and is in the glove box." Two days later when I went by, it was gone.

That sounds like something you did back when people hitchhiked and smoked a lot of grass.

I think law enforcement would trace it to the owner in less than an hour. It's a shame but things are not as they once were in so many ways

yeah that sounds scary if you junk they give you a few hundred dollars it has way too many issues to try and sell it it won't pass emissions as the light is on and you fix one thing the light comes back on 2 days later! its been like that for 10 yrs probably a short in the emissions system my mechanic thinks but try to find it it does have fairly new tires and brakes and struts and some other things
