cooling system woes

car: 03' Saturn ION Sedan
Auto
2.2

pretty much car over heated...and ive never had problems with the damn thing, but i guess now is a time to get right down and dirty with it...

i bought, new upper and lower rad hose, thermostat... and apperantly my fan died so i bought a new one...and also a fan relay switch...

questions:
were the hell is the thermostat located on this thing?!!?!?
were do i find the relay switch for the fan!?!?!?

everythign is pretty straight foward, its just those 2 things i cant find...

i took of the fan, took off the intake, i just need some help ...

additional info that would be great would be what size bolts/screws are on the thermo housing so i can just go buy what i need...

everything i own is metric for my track car...no standard tools...any help is appreciated...

Never had to change any of the parts you mention.

I'd look close to the water pump on the lower radiator hose for the stat.
Remember to buy a new cooling system cap and dexcool when doing this job.

Remove the cover on the underhood fuse box and locate the relay labeled "FAN"

They have not used standard fasteners on cars/trucks for what 25, 30 years so that makes me wonder where you have been or where you are.

++++++++---------------------------------------------------------------------------------++++++++

1) Drain the cooling system

2) Remove the bolts that secure the thermostat housing to the water pump feed pipe.

3) Remove the feed pipe.

4) Remove the thermostat and retaining sleeve, noting the orientation for installation.

1) Install the thermostat and retaining sleeve with the dimple placed into the housing slot.

2) Install the feed pipe that connects the thermostat housing to the water pump.

3) Install the bolt that secures the water pump feed pipe, and tighten the bolt to 18 inch lbs.(10 Nm).

4) Fill the cooling system.

SW2cam --

Just a head's up here ... San Jose is about 350 miles north of Los Angeles. Actually, it's almost the southern outskirts of San Francisco
