the car is a 1998 saturn sc2. when I step on the gas the car cuts out at 4500 rpms just like a rev limiter but I know it should be going alot higher then 4500. the service engine soon light is on and I havnt been able to run the code yet but what do you think could be causing this problem?

When does it cut out, when your revving when not in gear? Then it''s working just right.

It cuts out even when im in gear. it wont let me go above 4500 rpms no matter what

Possible issue with the vehicle speed sensor or its signal getting to the PCM.

If the 4500 RPM cutout is happening when the car is in gear (while you''re driving), I''m guessing the PCM doesn''t know how fast the car is moving {or that it is moving at all}

Please post SES codes and we will help you sort it out.

when you get to 4500 does it simply stop going higher or do you just loose any acceleration and the rpms shoot up?
