A/C Problems
 

Having problems with my 2006 Ion 2 and the Air conditioner. After we set for about 5 or 10 minutes it starts blowing warm air and even driving down the road it takes a little bit to start blowing cold, sometimes longer times than others. Cleaned the front coil and A/C vents hoping the bugs might have caused the problem but it wasn't. The front air dam is intact with no bends or stuff. I know I should take it to a mechanic but I'm on disability and my wife is un-employed at the moment so I'm trying to save where I can. Thanks for any help!

We don't need to know what the book says. We need to know what the gauges say that you hook to the bloody car.

Sounds like you could be a bit low on 134a, gauges will answer that.

One can of R134 and a hose with a guage cost about $20.00 or so. A second can about $10.00. Not the best things, but works for me. Been using that set up now for about 6 years.

The low side was around 25psi and the high was around 190psi, not sure what it should be, but the high seems alittle low to me. I believe thats what the old R12 systems were but I thought the R134 was supposed to be higher? The system only holds 1 pound so I'm afraid to put much in.

Give it a shot of 134a, not a fulll can. If you rather have the system evac'd and recharged go have that done.

Gave it a shot of 134 and low side pressure went up to 30 and high side stayed at 190, seems to work a little better but still goes warm after sitting at a long red light or such. Guess I'll try to stay away from long red lights? Or should I have it evac'd and try that? Or is there something else it could be? Appreciate all ideas and will listen to all! Thanks

27-30 lbs is about right low side @ 2000 rpm's. A/C will always blow warmer at idle then when moving. A/C will always blow warmer the higher the humidity. A/C will always get colder on a steady long run down the hiway. Now it's time you put a thermometer in the center vent to see what the numbers are. Buying a digital is your best bet, mainly because they are easy to read when on the move.

Hose off the condenser behind the grille real good, it could be a bit dirty. It costs nothing to do.

Now because to much information can be a bad thing as people read and don't have equipment and experience I'll pass this site on and you can work from that. Becarefull trying to make everything match to perfection, it's not going to happen in the real world.
