Having just fixed the fast idling problem the next most serious problem on my recently purchased $50 1997 SL2 is that the automatic transmission whines loudly and the Service wrench light pops on when I reach 5 mph or so. The Data Link connector under the dash is dead so I can’t pull any codes with a scanner.

Any ideas on the transmission whine? It appears to drive ok but shifts a little hard.

Any ideas on the dead Data Link connector? I have several electrical items that don't work (locks, interior lights, trunk latch) so I suspect wiring problems somewhere but haven't found them yet.

 

A blown fuse will cause all those items to stop working. Including the DLC.
